Best time to visit The Bahamas

Peak season

Clear skies and great weather are markers for the peak season months from December to April. This is the most popular time to head to the islands, and sometimes flights can be costly. If you plan to travel during this time, book flights, accommodation and excursions early.

Shoulder season

Shoulder season is between peak and low season. Some like to describe traveling during this time, between May and June, as ‘the best of both worlds’. The water temperature is perfect and it’s the ideal time to go out on a boat trip. Lower rates of flights and accommodation are often available, and the weather’s inviting too.

Low season

Low season, between July to November, can be a good time to travel for the best rates. The islands of The Bahamas are often less crowded during this time which means more room to roam on the island’s best beaches! This is a great time to travel to cut costs.

The Bahamas travel tips

Dos, don’ts, and other useful information

  • LANGUAGE

English is the official language of The Bahamas, which means you’re unlikely to have any issues communicating with the locals. Bahamians also speak with a local dialect known as Bahamian Creole.

  • CURRENCY

The Bahamian dollar (BSD ) is the official currency of The Bahamas. BSD is pegged to the US Dollar (USD). If you want spending money you can change your currency to BSD or to USD that is also accepted everywhere in The Bahamas.

  • ELECTRICITY

You will need to bring travel adapters with you when traveling to The Bahamas. The electricity plugs in this territory are Type A and Type B, and the voltage is 120V, the same as in the U.S. So if you already have US adapters they will work.

  • GETTING AROUND

Travel by bus, car, or taxi — it’s entirely up to you in The Bahamas. You can also rent a car to get around for convenience. Hiring a taxi is the most popular option, and you can make arrangements through your resort. Note: at Sandals Resorts, your transfer from and to the airport is included in the booking price!

  • TIPS AND GRATUITIES

Tips in the range of 10–15% are usually acceptable in The Bahamas. For guests of Sandals Resorts, tipping isn’t required, as it’s already included in your booking price, with the exception of butlers and spa staff.
